Does anyone know is it illegal for a school not to have a fire alarm ? Or even smoke detectors? There must be some law that states they must be in place ?!
The school I work in has none and I feel it's a tragedy waiting to happen !

check with the local fire officer or city/council planning department. far as I know its mandatory in all public buildings but I'm sure many many older schools don't have them (and probably don't have the funds to fit them either )

Simple answer is yes, under building regulations and fire alarm regulations (IS3218) there also should be emergency lighting (IS3217). Emergency funding can be obtained from dept of education for the likes of this, if there is no fire alarm a fire officer can in theory close the school

Ask the teachers rep. on the Board of Management to bring it up at the next meeting.
