JBL is getting quite unbearable on commentary. He should be sat down and forced to watch old Smackdown episodes from 2006 and figure out what made him entertaining back then, and why he's become so crap and annoying now.

He's a rambling, disinterested parody of his old self at this stage, don't know how anyone could think otherwise.

JBL is the closest WWE has come to an actual entertaining commentator in years. Dunno what it is you're watching.

Yeah I really like JBL aswell. His references to popular sports culture are usually impeccably timed.

    Split from Raw thread.

The JBL that came back a year ago is different to the JBL of today. All the announcers are sh!te. They're all to scripted and forced. At least JBL is still better than Cole and Lawler.

I'd agree. He's not as good as he once was, but he's still miles more entertaining than the other two when he wants to be.

He's about 1/3 of the commentator he used to be, but he's still better than Cole or Lawler by a mile.

He was great a few years ago because he seemed less contrived. I have little doubt he has strict guidelines now... gone are the fun little put downs and inside references, gone is the belief he could smack Michael Cole upside the head at any moment... he's still fab though.

JBL is decent - better than the others. CM Punk easily my favourite from the past few years. When he did commentary he was fantastic.

If he was given more freedom like he and Lawler used to be he'd be awesome. Same goes with Regal if he gets the chance.

    Think he's great.

    "Shut up Cole!"

The funny thing about JBL as the "heel commentator" is that you tend to agree with everything he says haha

I actually found he's been talking garbage over the last few months and have stopped enjoying his commentary. I think it is cool to have a guy who's plugged in to events outside America (sporting and otherwise) but I think it's gotten a bit over the top, heading towards 'amusing himself' territory. I did enjoy Cole sticking up for himself and attacking JBL over some points but I think it detracts from the match. Not half as good as he used to be but still miles ahead of the insanely grating Lawler. In an ideal world commentators would pay attention to the match, call the moves and make insightful & colourful comments about the storyline. WWF/Jesse Ventura is my perfect heel announcer.

+1000 even now - when jesse came back as guest host of raw and to commentate on the main event with vince he was a class above totally!

JBL is a very good commentator, I like how he is playing a heel as sockmo points out you tend to agree with him. I think the three man commentary team is overkill, I think King is the odd one out. I'm not a huge Cole fan, but him and JBL work together. King as heel during the 90's was gold because he was so vicious and over the top.

If they could put him and Cole together and give Lawler a painting of a spitfire and a handshake,I think they might be able to recapture the fantastic chemistry they had going in 2006.

He has made Michael Cole a lot better, they have great interactions. I don't skip as much of Raw now that he's on commentary.

They're possibly worried about his long term commitment to it so they're keeping Lawler around?
