Just wondering, is the S2S & Library Tour essential for incoming freshers?

I kind of took it as optional, but now I'm wondering if I have to / should probably go to it. I don't really want to tour the library, but is this S2S business necessary? Thank you!

It's not mandatory but some people do find S2S helpful. The mentors are there to help you if you feel the need to speak to a fellow student, some will organise pub nights with their groups and some you'll probably never see again if you don't feel the need to contact them. They have your email address and will probably send a group mail at some point in the near future so you'll find out who your mentor(s) is/are even if you don't go to the meeting.

The library tour does clear up some questions though about using the library. Familiarise yourself with the self-service machines and the library website, you shouldn't have any issues.

Your S2S mentors are students (usually second years) who have volunteered and given up their time to organise stuff for you, give you tours, answer questions, etc. It's a bit rude not to go, honestly.

That aside, this is your first opportunity to get frank answers about your course from within the college. Your professors or course-organisers will usually sugarcoat their answers!

Not to mention it's a time to make friends, both with the S2S people and with people in your course.
