Hey, I am looking for the size of bmw part number: 07146778500 which is a handbrake cable nut, none of the websites selling actual nuts don't seem to show the size (mm) in description which is pretty stupid thing to do I think.

I am just looking for extra deep socket of that size as I need to tighten my handbrake, but my sockets are just normal ones so they don't fit.

    Any help?
    It's this one: http://c1552172.r72.cf0.rackcdn.com/189848_x600.jpg

    Thanks.

You don't tighten handbrake with that nut. You need to go to the drums within rear discs and go from there. Sorry I don't know the size. Check YouTube for how to proceeds

I know that, I did it, but sometimes it requires you to fully release these nuts, then tighten up drum shoes, then tighten these nuts a bit.

I did the drums tightening already, that doesn't work. (brand new brake shoes)

If you want to know the size of the nut stick a spanner on it. Probably a 10 mm or so. Nuts and bolts come in thread sizes which is more important to know.

You'll need t do this job the proper way and release the cables to slacken before fitting or adjusting discs and shoes! also sometimes the cable mechanism that spreads the shoes gets jammed and rusted, this generally needs cleaning and a bit of copper grease. the cables should be checked so you know that they are moving freely(easily done when replacing the shoes and discs). the nut inside is a 10mm i think.
you should adjust the shoes evenly from the hubs first then just remove the slack from inside but the inside is a fine adjustment you may have to adjust from the hubs after a bit of a burn in.

    Go to http://realoem.com

You can search for the part number there or you can enter the las 7 digits of your VIN or browse by model to get a view of every part on your car along with exploded diagrams etc...

It's an M6 nut by the way....

    Cheers,

    LTD.

I know that, that's where I got number from, but as I said - it does not say the size of it.
