Hi to all. I am currently doing eng Irish maths French accounting chemistry and geography. Unfortunately biology is on same time as chemistry and as that is needed for some courses I chose it. The only other science subject clashes with French and as this can be a course requirement in some courses I chose it incase I change my mind. At this moment in fifth year my favourite subjects are chemistry and maths. Would I need to biology to study med or is chem ok. I was just wondering if these subjects would be ok to do medicine. Also regarding points I only got 4 As and 7 Bs in the JC as I put in the minimal effort needed so would I be able to attain the high points needed. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this

You would have to do the extra year which is called pre-med i'd say, because you don't have all the sciences. It can be a good help, and it's made up of the three sciences and some other stuff.

As for points, I don't think anyone is going to be able to gauge whether or not you can get the points based on you jc, only you know that :)

Chemistry will be of much more use to you in Medicine than biology, as bio is much easier to pick up. If you think you could it might be worth taking it up outside school as you just need to get a C3 in HL I think, then you could get into a 5 year programme.

Does English need to be counted as one of your six? Can it be excluded when adding up your points in favor for another subject?

You can exclude for it points but you need a D3 in higher or a C3 at ordinary to get into most University and IT courses. However, English is actually an OK enough subject if you apply yourself correctly! It's kind of like Science in a way, you can follow a formula and get a good grade!
