    Hello.

I purchased an adaptor from Dealextreme and downloaded the Torque app but I reckon the adaptor is useless as it fails to communicate with my Toyota, although it does with VW it dont show fault codes etc.

Any good ones available that work on most models?

    Cheers.

Which exact model adapter did you get? What year are the cars? Petrol or diesel?

I bought one from Dealextreme aswell.

Have used it both on my E46 and my Granny's Yaris without issue.

The ELM 327, yeah - that's a proper bit of kit, that.

Yup, it's pretty handy when combined with Torque.

Only thing I can't get it to do is talk to the Android Dynavin unit in the BMW.

This & realtime engine stats would be pretty sweet.

Anyone found any "hidden"/cool features for it?

Doesn't seem to have an on/off switch, is it not draining the car battery when the engine is switched off? I know it's going to use very little juice but what about if you go away for a week or two?

I think he means in the glovebox or similar. That's where I keep mine anyway.

I use the same setup you have, and it simply wont read certain makes/models of car. Sometimes its because of the year of the car, sometimes I dont know why. reads an 04 corolla, but not an 05 landcruiser for example. If it reads the car you drive its a cheap way to get into very basic diagnostics. If not, your probably only out of pocket by €20 or €30 anyway.

Probably it was tested on them, but it uses a lot of protocols, which ar compatible with way more cars.

Regarding toyota , they uses specific protocol(cant remember which one.. something pas through protocol) , i bought wire from usa for something 150 quid, and using original toyota software "techstream" , virtually i can do any toyota, and software updates.
regarding vw, they love dedicated wire, one most popular is vag-com , which you may get near to nothing as a clone, but not sure it may do coding, or you may buy original (what i did) from ross-tech.

EDIT: i bought it, because i get some times odd cars like Hyundai, or peogeot ... some times need just read codes, and clear.

I have the ross tech one its a brilliant piece of kit, I wouldn't mind having a look at that toyota one it sounds great..
