Is it bad that you can loudly hear the mouse clicking the clips during the news?

This is a frequent occurrence in bulletins. It happens for several reasons. Newsreaders will use the mouse to play audio clips and if their mic fader isn't pulled down when they go to play the audio then you'll hear the mouse click.

Also news booths are usually cramped, space is at a premium resulting in mics being very close to the aforementioned mouse increasing the likelihood of hearing clicks.

Could they not get a mouse that doesn't click?

Pencil scribbling on news at 1 and drive time. Also Des Cahill sounding like he has just woke up.

You can hear them at anytime not just during the news. I've heard them during links on daytime music shows, particularly when the presenter promises some "up-to-the-minute news from X's Twitter feed" or news about some D-lister who has bought a new handbag or something really important like that.

Mary Wilson is famous for it when her guests are answering a question.

Newstalk breakfast show has constant mouse clicks and sometimes loud typing noises. Really annoying.

BBC Radio 1 use mice that don't click i.e. not audible when used. It's a shame radio stations here haven't invested in them/ picked up on the fact that they're available.

Newstalk used to have the best of Moncrieff on saturday evenings at around 5 or 6, obviously it was just 5 or 6 clips from the weeks show together but every so often you would hear that noise your computer makes when there is an error, was fairly unprofessional. Newstalk as a whole seem to have very sensitive mics in the studio, its not that bad when the show is live and it's happening but I dont think news broadcasts should have the sound.

Regularily hear clicks on newstalk's bulletins.

Some other stations, ocassionally hear a load of clicks and an error sound too. Really unprofessional at times

Whatever about the mouse clicks, it's the error noises etc. that are worse. I work in an open plan office and everyone has long since turned off those sounds on their computers. It's such an easily solvable issue.
