Hi lads and lassies , i am looking for some info , a health club gave out some of my private info to a member of the public without my consent which resulted in people making treats to my property so I am just wondering if they have broken any laws here .

    cheers

There may be data protection issues.

Talk to the Data Protection Commissioner www.dataprotection.ie

For threats, talk to the Garda.

If there is actual loss or damage then the data subject may be able to sue for compensation under s.7 DPA 1998 and 2003. Link.

They can't give out your information. Talk to a solicitor.

Depends what the OP means by the phrase "private info" surely?

Hypothetical scenario: someone crashes into a car in the gym car park and scarpers, and the victim wants to get the reg number or view CCTV...

True. I had assumed it was an address.

That's why we have a police force, who have to apply for the CCTV footage.

Might also depend on how they knew the info, for example if the staff were neighbours of the OP, they might know the information seperatly from the data held by the club

ianal but if they were asked as members of staff for the information and they provided the information as staff members then does it matter how they came by the information (CCTV/Database or that they live next door) they provide as part of their work ?

You need to make a complaint to the health club first and then you can follow up with the Commission.

I'm guessing that there's more to this story than meets the eye.
