Forum: Atheism and Agnosticism. I'm sorry to be a pain but I feel really hard done by with these mod decisions. Thanks in advance.

This is the first thread. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057038804

It deals with the prominent atheist Richard Dawkins outrageous comments on "mild paedophilia".

This was locked. I would point out that child abuse is a common topic of discussion in A&A. This is from the first page of topics for example.

US Priest Sentenced to 50 Years for Child Porn, bishop convicted for not reporting it

The second thread which has been disappeared involved another prominent atheist - the 2012 Secularist of the year no less - and his involvement with Dawkins, his documented involvement with paedophilia advocacy groups and his disgraceful comments such as:
While it may be impossible to condone paedophilia, it is time society acknowledged the truth that not all sex involving children is unwanted, abusive and harmful.

This guy only became known to me during the course of the original thread and the topic though slightly related was entirely seperate.

I wanted to know secularist groups weren't condemning this man as opposed to giving him awards.

I can give an update on the vanishing thread. It was moved into the previously locked thread. It was moved into an already locked thread. So glad I made the effort now of looking up the links and quotes to support the OP. Anyway, I've just realised this is another case of the unique moderating I receive from Robin so I am probably just pissing into the wind again despite being ****ed over.

This was the last occasion I wasted my time here.

    My understanding is this...

Your initial thread "Dawkins Trivialises Paedophilia" ran for 11 pages before being locked. The reason given was, essentially "people seem incapable of discussing this topic in a calm fashion."

Understandably this thread was going to be divisive and it battled on until such point as people became entrenched and no agreement was ever going to be reached. Once a thread gets to that point it just gets snipey and personal, as well as becoming a time-sink for mods. I should say that nobody got carded or banned, probably as the thread was closed before that became necessary.

Some threads, such as the Abortion thread remain open because they deal with a substantive societal issue, whereas some threads aren't worth the pain of keeping them open. (Yes, pedophilia is a big issue, but a cherry-picked quote from a famous atheist about his childhood is not worth people getting banned over.)

In relation to the second thread. It was the first thread wearing a new hat. And since the first thread was already closed, it made sense to throw it in there for posterity.

    I see no problem here.
