Is there a way to order from Amazon.com and if the product is due duty, pay it when it arrives, rather then paying Amazon?

    For example,
If i want to order this Logitech G230 Stereo Gaming Headset for $29 which roughly converts to €22.44.
    Shipping is €7.49
Which brings the total to ~ €30

    23% of €30 = €6.90

Price landed = €38.03 from Amazon, which is still a good price, considering it's £45stg (€53) on Amazon UK and €60 on all other Amazons in Europe (Except France, it's on sale @ €45).

But i have a very vague memory of being able to turn that feature off and paying if asked, when it arrives.
Does anybody know if it's possible, or how to do it?

I'd rather pay the Duty here.

If you pay the duty here you will also have to pay a handling fee to the shipper which could be up to €15. You're better off letting amazon handle it.

He might want to run the risk of it slipping through.

Though the offical limit is €22, the working limit at 23% is €26.08, this was confirmed to me by revenue, the limit for collection is €6. So his €6.90 might be let slip through.

Years ago I saw customs spokesmen on the RTE news saying the limit was €45, this is the limit for gifts, but he spoke as though there was only 1 limit.

Sorry, the €7.49 is for shipping and handling.

Yeah, i read somewhere it's down now to €33 unofficially, but is officially at €30 (Which may very well be wrong, or outdated.). I won't pretend to understand why, i assume it's some sort of 'slack'.
I can't see them stopping too many parcels at €24 and asking people to cough up the €0.46c. But if they ever need to, they can.

So the headset would probably get through anyway at ~ €30? Legally.

You misunderstood. If the item is shipped without customs duty prepaid and is subsequently assessed by customs you will have to pay the duty and vat PLUS a separate handling fee for customs clearance payable to the shipping company.

    Ah.

I had wanted to order 3 at that price, one for my Nephew and two for my Friend's sons.
Speaking to him last night, i hadn't said anything to him yet, then he was giving out about them breaking their third Xbox. That was the end of that.

    Still may order one.

    Thanks.
