We want to plant Hazel hedging. We have a sandy clay soil (sloppy in the wet, like concrete when dry). Sun will be on the hedges basically all day. Are these good conditions for this type of hedge?

Framework (ground, light) sounds good to me! The mixture of sand and clay should be able to let water dry off/drain because corylus doesnt like wet feet.

If it's going in an exposed area, give it a bit of protection from the wind. We've a hazel hedge and the difference in the bit that had protection and the bit that didn't is remarkable!
