Hi there, so just looking for some advice on my fathers entitlements from local council.

He is suffering from alzheimer's over the past 2 years and it has gotten really bad over the past year. He has a HSE nurse that comes in each morning to shower him or do some tidying around the house as he has lost all independance for himself now.

I was speaking to the nurse one morning and she meantioned that I should look into getting a grant to change the bathroom/shower into a wet room for him as he is a tall man, she said it all very quickly and I got very confused as to what to do, since I am working full time I never see the Nurse I just happened to be there at that time that day.

So I just had a look on the Fingal website about getting a grant for this and maybe getting insulation updated too as the house is very cold in the winter.

Is there anyone on here who has gone through any of this grant stuff with Fingal Co Co? I know they can be kinda difficult with things. Or how I go about all this and how long it takes?

All new to this stuff and just need any help anyone can give as I get pretty confused myself with these things.

Thanks very much for any help that can be given :)

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Hi there,
I hope you dont mind me jumping on your thread. My mother is suffering from Alzheimers also. My father is her carer but he has his own health issues and its getting a bit much for him. I'd be interested in knowing how you got the home help, and whether this is only available if the sufferer is by themselves? Does the state cover the cost of this ect...

If there is any other assistance you have received that could take a bit of the load off my father let me know!!

    Thank you!

I'm not too sure but my brother brought him to an occupational therapist a few months back to get some tests done to try and find out what was going on, and the nurse there recommend to get someone in each day for an hour to help with tablets cleaning shower etc, we didnt sort it out but the nurse there sorted it out then contacted us when it was sorted, was a while waiting.

FYI he does live on his own so with your father there it might be a little harder to get some help from the HSE sadly but do try.

On the tablet issue, I have been watching the tablets like a hawk now and if he takes the wrong day from the blister pack i just switch them around to the right days and seal the days with tissue and some sellotape, seems to be working better now and easy to follow.
