Hey - I will be let go from my job next month. I have been working here since August 2012. Will I be entitled to Jobseeker's benefit? Before I got a job I was getting jobseeker's allowance for four months and before that I was in University. I am no longer entitled to JA because my spouse is earning above the threshold.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Thank you so much for your reply.Yeah, I had a look at that and the welfare website but I don't understand whatit means by 39 weeks PRSI paid or credited in the relevant tax year (a minimum of 13 weeks must be paid contributions*)

It says the relevant tax year is 2011 - I was in University for half of 2011 and unemployed for the other half.

Do they not calculate JB on the past twelve months? Is it calculated on what you did in 2011?

ETA - I have well over 104 paid PRSI contributions. I have worked nearly every year from age 16 - 26 before going back to education.

OH earns 32k gross - I think the cut off is about 20,000. We'll just be poor for a while :(

If you don't get JSA or JSB make sure you sign for prsi credits.

If you don't do this it could potentially mess up your entitlement to social welfare payments in the future e.g. pension or jobseekers benefit or illness benefit.

Thanks for that - Would that still involve the weekly visit to the post office?

I think its every 6 months but if you take up employment you need to sign off again
