Being in Cork have you tried Future Forests?
They run a good show, I've used them a number of times and never been disappointed.

I can see why they would laugh,
Theres a good chance these will fail too, all for the sake of holding out for one more month.
Is it incase of an inspection. I would just put in an order for end of October <modsnip>.
Just show them the order you have placed, shows you have made effort to replace them

If he keeps them well watered should be okay.

If it were me,then Id would have held on till bare root seaaon which will be in another 6 weeks or so...... and up to March of next year.

Deciduous Trees will be starting to shut down their systems in the next few weeks or so.

There is a "possible slight chance" you could lose some of them if planted now......but you need to have good soil conditions for planting and make sure the rootball/root area of the tree gets suffeciant water....this is vital.

You could also install a meter of plastic pipe or Hydrodare pipe down to the roots of the tree,so that you can get water directly down to them.

    I agree.
Surely if you paid for them and ha the receipt to hand it would satisfy the inspector??

For the moment they will be planted in boggy ground, this should stop them from drought...have been told inspectors go severe around here if trees not planted. Planner told me he has had guys into him with 50% penalty over no trees. Hence the urgency. Some inspectors are not nice guys....

    [MOD]

A bit of snippage and post deletion has occurred above.
Suggesting that someone makes a false deceleration to Department officials is contrary to the forum charter, as are suggestions of outright theft.
Even with a smiley attached!

Boggy Ground would suit Alder better I would think, maybe thats why the first lot of Ash failed Too wet?

there is a nurasy in birr (cant remember the name), got mine there a few years ago, great slection and next day delivery.

yes it is too early to set and you may get a high failure rate but if really want to set them now get a couple of buckets of fresh horse sh*te (you can plant with it fresh and it wont burn the roots like cattle manure). dig your hole and stick in the horse manure and put your sapling into it, cover and compact then put on a good bit of water.

    found it M&M

i stuck in alder on wet ground and they are triving, takes them a while to get going compared to say ash or sycamore but they come good and look great

A whip is just a small young tree sapling that when planted looks like a small stick or a whip sticking out of the ground.

Worth placing rabbit guard tube around them so that they can be eaten by rabbits and hares,or dmmaged by a lawnmower or strimmer.
