    So yeah, was on the way to watch the FlightFest in Dublin today, when, whilst sitting in traffic on Grove Road, a couple of Garda motorbikes went by, stopping traffic, etc, so I thought I'd take photos of whatever they were letting through, as it seemed to be important.

    And that's when a load of the DF forces went by;

    A few of these, one with the driver waving at everyone;

    Two of these buses;

    So, does anyone know where they coming or going, or what? Were they the bunch heading off to Syria?

    Sorry dude. From the somewhat jubilant mood of some of the drivers (waving, etc), it seemed there was something on that was in the public domain. My bad.

    You've nothing to apologise for, man. Sure those lads probably stopped off at a garage for some scran, I doubt they berated any civvies who asked where they are off to!

    Since they took off the identity disks on the vehicles, am I correct in assuming that the only way to ID a unit driving by these days is to try to gander at the guy's shoulder flash?

    Are you sure that they are not on the way back from somewhere?

    There are tours to and from the Lebannon coming and going every couple of months

    I'm surprised that something as normal as a few military trucks driving around in their own country has attracted so much interest. Is it such a rare sight?

    Lived in the states for a couple of years and it was common place to see convoys of about 30 odd Hummers accompanied by trucks with flat bed trailers with tanks and APC's on the back. I was also living a few miles away from an Air National Gaurd base and would be frequently woken up early on a Sunday morning by the screaming of F15 and F16's taking off.

    People here when they see more than a couple of military vehicles together on the road think we're being invaided. That is unless it's the bomb squad, them lads are too common around certain areas in Dublin its not funny.

    You can tell what brigade the vehicle is from still. The Brigade crest is seen on a sticker where a tax disk would normally be seen on the windscreen.

    Bleh. I was on the way to the skyfest, saw the trucks, took photos, and asked about them. If it wasn't for the two full 70-seater buses and the driver waving at the cars, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it. Small army trucks; normal enough. Two full 70 seaters heading (what looks like) away from the local barracks, with a load of equipment, it caught my attention.

    that could be RDF goin to glen of imaal on camp, since they have RORO trucks i'd say its more than likely an exercise, they would hardly be flying them containers over??
