Hyundai i30 Rough Starting, Smell of Diesel and Exhaust Gases

About 4 months back maybe the engine would chug a little in the cold mornings, brought it down for service. Asked the lads to have a look at it but they couldn't find anything. A few weeks back brought it to a different Hyundai dealership and asked them to check it out too while servicing the car. They could find anything either and they couldn't find the chugging problem either and said everything was fine.

Ever since the start it has been getting worse and worse and now there's a heavy smell of diesel when the car starts and runs.

The only other fault up to that was the fuel filter light on for a while. I changed the fuel filter and after a week or so the light disappeared. I also found that there was no water in the diesel when I was changing the filter which could indicate there was something dodgy with the fuel filter sensor.

I'm out of ideas of what to look at? Any advice or experience?

It's a 2007 1.6 CRDi 115 bhp model.

I asked the lads to have a look at the glow plugs as that was my initial thoughts and it was on everyone's first item to check list. Though they said they were fine, though I got the jist that they never even bothered to looked while servicing the car.

I generally buy my diesel once a week on the way back to Dublin. M4 Apple Green station or fill up in Topaz time to time too, but its generally one tank and one station.

I'll be bringing it in Wednesday hopefully with the sole purpose of finding the fault and fixing it. Exhaust gases coming out are not pleasant at this stage.

The power output does not seem to be deteriorating either, MPG is normal as always have been if that makes a difference.

Just wondering did you ever get to the bottom of the problem with the Hyundai, as im being told by my daughter that there's a similar exhaust problem with her Hyundai diesel when she starts it - a lot of exhaust fumes.

Not yet. Going to leave the car in Tuesday hopefully.

Heavy smell of diesel and exhaust gas in my previous car was injector seals.
