Root Canal yes or no?

Hi, As mentioned in a previous thread i recently cracked a molar, the crack is above the gumline and the tooth had been previously filled. Hi,

The thing is i'm a student so the financial side of a root canal scares me plus the cost of a crown on top of this really will be a struggle for me to afford!!

I'm gonna go get a second opinion first before commiting to anything but how long can u expect a root canal to last for??
