No more mushrooms

Went picking mushrooms this morning, if I can call it that, because we didn't find any. Strolled around miles of hills around the home place, the same place use to be white with them when we were kids, and this morning not one in sight, of any variety. Where have they all gone?

Haha did you share it with the family, or did you eat it all yourself :) Yeah I have seen the odd few around, but was expecting to come back with a lot of mushy's today, the place use to be a gold mine for them

One of the lads in our office has a secret spot where they abound, he brings in a box every now and then as they are fantastic.

We used to have lots, going back maybe 30 years ago. But I haven't seen one in a very long time.

I think FYM is supposed to be good for them. Been a poor time for them here too, only managed to get two in my place.

Our low lying land had plenty of them about 2 weeks back. Nice addition to the Clonakility sausages and puddings.

FYM is good alright, supposed to be a sign of healthy soil and if
not there then too much chemical of one form or another is hammering
    the bold microbes.

I'm on high ground and we had lots back in August. The warm ground and a bit of moisture.

Gonna get it in the neck for this but I remember walking the fields about a month back and I kicked a number of them around the fields

I found some in the hospital paddock in Aug, but it's ok now as I cured the problem with N

We ended up doing that in a field beside the road. People were pulling up and hopping into the fields with bulls down the bottom and nothing between them only a strip wire.

Its just the time of year when the bulls are getting to the "bould" stage aswell. Last straw was a woman in the field with a buggy!
CAN went out that evening and not so much as a button since.

The home farm explodes with them every year. Still a few popping up in the odd field but to be honest I'm so sick of eating them at this stage, I just leave 'em.

From what I can work out sandy light soil seems to be the spot, with a small cover of grass (maybe 500 kg/DM/ha)
As said, Nitrogen wipes them out completely.

Yep - the best place for them is old pasture that had FYM applied. Horse pasture also good

we used to collect them as kids, easily fill one of those big wicker baskets everyone's mother used to have. Pig slurry put an end to that.

Where I grew up in Kildare we had a lot of stud farms and sandy soil. Luckily things haven't changed as much in this area and when I visit the parents I can still get a good haul. Its worth checking out certain types of woodland for them too. Different species but equally tasty.

If you've that many pick them, box them and sell them to flash restaurants, you can name your price... Even if yr no where near Dublin courier will cost you 12 / 15 a box to overnight them ...

Would ya get much for them? I wouldn't have the time anyway TBH.

Once word gets out that they've started popping locals come from miles around to pick them so they don't go to waste.
Have no problem with the locals coming in. They know the score with bulls, gates, wires and never leave a bit of rubbish or hassle. Often get a few eggs or some fresh fish left at the door in return.

My place used to be half decent for getting them, don't know what's changed with that really. Oh well, maybe next year.

Layers of them around in a field that i sacrificed to let cows out to be bulled in the spring. anywhere i had a ring feeder is just white with them., The whole field was great for them. it has to be something to do with poaching i reckon.
