    hello,

    my grandfather got clamped yesterday.

he has very bad memory and cannot remember things e.g where he parked the car.
what happened was my grandmother couldn't find him so we went looking for him eventually found him. but what happened was he couldn't remember where he parked the car. so spent most of the day going around town looking for the car.

eventually found the car but to find out that the car was CLAMPED because it was over it 2 hour stay period. now on this particular street the shops that own the parking most of them are shut down.

so pleaded our case and explained every thing to the private clamping company but no they were having none of it.

so when I told them to come and take the clamp of for €120. then they told me that it would be at least an hour before any one could come. so I really got mad then.

so when I start to remove the clamp my force they were within seconds.

have I got a leg to stand on. ?????

No case at all unfortunately. If his memory is that bad, should he be driving at all. (Not being cruel, serious question)

Not being funny, but,Why is he even driving if he's gotten to the stage he gets lost and cant remember where he left his car?

Your going to have to pay the fine unfortunatley.

    Very sad.

However, cruel and all as this sounds, should your Grandfather be driving at all?

Ah come on...the OP went further than that. The man has a "very bad memory" and cannot "remember things" and spent the day wandering around town looking for his car. That's a world away from forgetting whether you're on 2M or 3M in Dundrum.

Is it council approved clamping...then no.
Is it a scumbag private operation, tell them they illegally interfered with your private property and you were prevented from your right to go about your business freely....or some sh¡te like that

It's still an offence to damage other peoples property. So unless the clamp can be removed without damaging it then you are liable for criminal damage, same as you can sue them if they damage your car when applying or removing the clamp(apart from the criminal bit as they are legally grey).

But sure they gave him the clamp by attaching it to the car?

If you break the lock, its very unlikely they will take you to court. The last thing these cowboys would want would be to be up in court where their dodgy dealings could be put before the law.

Don't chance it if you don't want to, but I'd expect them to cave straight away.

I got a new toy for work there a couple of months ago, it's a milwaukee 18v cordless portable bandsaw - (think about 3.5kgs, about 15 inches by ten) and there's nothing that fits into the jaw opening that it will not silently and rapidly(very) cut through. It's very cool and anyone that sees me using it always asks wtf it is(I've not seen any others.). Long story short, silent capability with no sparks - is it perhaps the worlds best clamp remover??
