Feck sake....decided to change the brake pads on my Citreon C5, the brake piston is a non return type with a 5 sided recessed bolt...where in the name of God will I get one of these tomorrow....?

Update...you need to rotate the caliper pistons to get them back in....I used a grinder disc removal tool and opened the bleed valve.
There is also a handbrake linkage which will need to be disconnected too

thought they were rewind type , will a normal rewind tool not do the job?

I'm not familiar with a rewind type....How does that work

I'm sure if I can open this bolt I can get the piston to retract

Looks like the rear brake caliper in the pic.
Have you lost/broken something on the caliper..?

If you pm me the vin number and an email address i'll send you on the removal guide from citroen servicebox..:)

Id imagine that bolt has nothing to do with piston moving.

    Id say its rewind type

Front calipers, bit missing is the handbrake linkage, I have a home made rewind tool, nothing happened when used it. I'd say this bolt realises the piston pressure when opened.
I've disconnected the whole caliper from the car and brake fluid supply

Opening that bolt won't help you.

It could be left hand thread though to rewind the piston. Can't really remember as its a while since I did pads on a C5.

With it dismantled the way you have it, it should wind back if you put some pressure on the piston and turn it with a vice grips or something.

It should go back handy enough.

There rewind type. You need to push and turn at the same time.

I use a g clamp and a pipe grips myself.

    Surely on rear brakes?

Never seen rewind on front brakes

Thanks for the help...I used a angle grinder disc removal tool to thread it back.

Is it front or rear caliper

Front.....bloody french making it so complicated

Just checked it out on servicebox as said above one side needs a right hand wind back tool and the other needs a left hand wind back tool..

I have a right hand tool in the garage but not a lefthand one....I have also used a G-Clamp and Pipe pliers in the past which also works..:)
Its also better to open the bleed screw alittle to vent the pressure and prevent old brake fluid going back into the brake system.
