Came across a JLC similar to one in picture. Good case on leather strap. Dated 1960. How does €1200 sound? Recently serviced and running well. Haven't enquirer about box and papers.

JLC have been known as the watchmakers watch. Fantastic movements, real quality. Do you know what size it is? 36mm or above would be very nice.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I would have thought that 36mm or bigger would be optimistic for a watch of that era W? But I bow to your expertise and age ;)

I'd recommend lots of due diligence. I believe that Zaf's forum is probably the best one for JLC. I'd do a trawl through here - I'd also insist on movement shots and would want to know whether the gold is 9, 14 or 18ct as that will give a little bit of an indication of how good a buy it is. I'd say you'll be lucky with papers.

I almost bought a vintage JLC Club a couple of years ago and going through the forum above armed me with the knowledge that the Club range had bought-in movements and aren't worth anywhere near as much as the "real thing".

Edit: Just to add that this particularly model didn't have Club on the dial (many do) and had an 18k case - this was how it was originally sold but you can easily overlook this kind of thing.
