Pairing issue

My Sky+ remote is on the way out, so rather than buy a new one, I opted to buy a 2nd hand Sky+ HD box - mostly for the streaming stuff.

I went online to pair by applying the box version and serial numbers but the website said there was an issue and to contact Sky.

I called them and gave my details.
They said that they can't complete this as the card that the box is currently paired with has a large outstanding payment.

I presume that I am screwed and that there is no way around this, but just thought I would check.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,

Wow, never heard of that happening before. I'd just ring them back and explain that your old box broke and that you bought the other one second hand, if they refuse to pair your card just say that there's no point subscribing if I can't watch anything and tell them you want to cancel, I would bet one of 2 things will happen, they will either pair the box/ card or offer you a new one.

Where did you get the box from anyway?

This is now becoming common where people cancel their contracts before the 12 months are up or owe a large ammount of money and then sell the box. Sky will then refuse to re-activate this box and to be fair cant really blame them.

Best to buy a new box or from a brick and mortar shop or somewhere that will take it back.....all over Limerick every cash converter shop has tons of sky boxes for sale....

I will try to get my money back from the seller and check the bricks and mortar route.
Before I do that, I might try calling SKy one more time and do what was said here.

Sky will not do it for you...I have come across about 5 instances of this in the past month alone....its to stop people selling equipment and cancelling there contracts early..how much did u pay for it?

It will be in time as there will be plenty more going through this...

The amount of people selling Sky+ HD boxes on adverts claiming they are 6 months old etc is incredible, unfortunately most people don't realise the initial contract is 12 months.

Sky tell you now over the phone when you signup and record your voice that you agree to a 12month contact.

Sorry, what I mean is most people buying s/h boxes don't realise that these '6 month old' boxes are more than likely still in contract and absolutely worthless to them if Sky won't pair their card to it.
