Are you aware that you can not overclock with that motherboard or CPU.
You could save a bit by going with a regular hard drive. There's probably little bonus for picking that one unless you're doing RAID or want a long warranty.

If the main purpose is gaming, you should be diverting more funds to the graphics card and away from the CPU. Going with an older Intel model won't save you much, but you could switch to an AMD motherboard and CPU which could save you the bulk of €100.
Maybe you could fit in a 7950 or a 760.

    You also don't need a 630W PSU.

Skip the Seagate an go for a Western Digital 1TD caviar Blue
    (€54.81) saves you almost €20

Go for cheaper ram: Gskill Ripjaw (€65.40) saves you €10

Go for a be quiet 530W (more than enough power...) saves you €10

Put the €40 saved towards a faster gfx card....

EDIT: At least a Nvidia 650Ti better yet stretch you budget a little more and get a Radeon 7850 or if you can a Nvidia 660.

You could also go a little cheaper on the case:

    Bitfenix outlaw €40

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies. I wasnt planning on doing any overclocking. I never had a amd processor. Have always preferred intel. I will be running some virtual machines on hyper v so thats why I want a good processor. Is there any other processor or motherboard you guys recommend? I have changed the hard drive and ram to what was mentioned above. Still a bit short to get the 660 graphics card.

Also about overclocking. Would it be possible using the stock cooler?

    Thanks

If you want a great processor, the Xeon 1230v3 is a quad core with hyperthreading for €222.
    http://www.hardwareversand.de/Socket+1150+(XEON)/78093/Intel+Xeon+E3-1230v3+Box%2C+LGA1150.article

The additional virtual cores are of benefit with Hyper V, but if you want to focus on gaming, your graphics card is the single most important thing.

What kind of games do you intend to play?

Your monitor would be 1920x1080 resolution, so if it's any of the newer games at high detail, you'll want to double the money that your putting into that card.

I would like to play the new games when they come out such as TitanFall and BF4 but it would not bother me playing them on mid graphics. I play quite a few indie games and not many graphic demanding games. Which graphics card would you guys recommend? Playing ultra high settings is not required. I also very much like the look of that processor so trying to keep price of graphics card down would be beneficial.

Would a graphics card like this be effective for what I am looking for:

    ASUS EAH7770-2GD5, AMD Radeon HD 7770, 2GB, PCI-Express

The 7770 is okay for a budget gaming build, but I would expect them to run the above games at more like 720P rather than 1080P.

Which graphics card would you recommend for best bang for buck?

    Radeon 7850.

Also note that an AMD fx6300 have vt support and has 6 cores which makes it an excellent cheap chip for running multiple VMs.

    Hi,

Can you send me a direct link to that graphics card please? Also do you guys have any opinion on the motherboard or is it okay?

    Thanks.

Could always go for this off pixmania, €150 for a 7870 which would be better than a 7850. Its marked as a reference card but people usially get sapphire cards insted. Great price for a 7870 if you can stretch for it.

The actual sapphire card is €169 on the same site

Thats a good price off pixmania. I may need to cut back a bit on the processor.
This is the one I was looking at:
    http://www.hardwareversand.de/Socket+1150+%28XEON%29/78093/Intel+Xeon+E3-1230v3+Box%2C+LGA1150.article

I am roughly 50-60 euro over budget at the moment.

My budget is around 800 euro including the monitor.

How's this? I don't think you will need anything better than an fx6300 for vm's or games. It's a great processor for the money, especially when overclocked.

With this board and cooler you should be able to push around 4.5ghz. Maybe slightly less.

An ssd should be a must as well. It will speed up the performance of your pc a lot and is ideal for your vm's.

You have enough left there to get a good monitor.

    Hi,

That build looks very impressive. Never have used an amd processor before but they get good reviews. Only problem is the case and power supply have a delivery date of unknown. Does anyone know how long it usually takes them to get stock?

    Thanks.

You could always fire them off an email, but by all accounts its usually quick enough

Depends how patient you are really.

I'd be happy enough to wait a few days to a week for stuff to come into stock. HWVS are generally quite quick to get stock in and often before the date they expect it.

Others seem to be happy to change things around to suit what's in stock.

Ya I am willing to wait couple of weeks if I have to. How long does delivery usually take with them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

About a week for payment the first time and around a week for delivery.

I sent payment one day and it cleared the next. Not the express transfer either. Although it's mostly about 3 working days I think.

Yeah, that's more worst case in that part. It depends on the bank and the time of week you do it on.
