Buying Agricultural land

Firstly, sorry mods if this is in the wrong place!
A nice little parcel (5 acres)of agricultural land has tempted me as the area and price are right, however, although I'm no spring chicken, retiring and setting up a homestead as such is a little while off so I'm curious as to what I could realistically do with such a plot before then.
I've done some research online on County council planning websites etc regarding what I can and can't do on agricultural land and it appears that I cannot install a mobile home or wood cabin on the land for me to use as a little getaway spot.
Disappointed by having what I deem to be a great offer and opportunity to acquire land but prohibited by law from doing anything other than camping on it I thought I'd ask you guys (in the real world) if it is as black and white as planning procedures claim so.
    Thanks in advance.
