Campagnolo Questions.

I am rebuilding an old bike, using new Campy components. I am still at the purchasing stage.
    I have two questions.
1)I see, that I need a 14mm hex tool, which is about 20euro. Is this simply
An ordinary 14mm Allen key, which I can buy in my local D.I.Y. for a euro.
2)will a Shimano cassette locking tool work with a Campy cassette locking ring?
    Thanks. In advance.

    (1) Yep, standard 14mm Hex. Although I found it hard to find one bigger than 12mm in the usual hardware stores.

    (2) No. I have a separate tool for Shimano and Campagnolo anyway.

Having built an older steel frame/New Campagnolo bike earlier this year I found quite a few things I wasn't expecting. If the components are from the last few years then....

    1. Campgnolo shifters and chain rings bolts need torx keys not hex keys. I think a 2.5, one with a long handle would be very useful for the shifters.

    2. Ultra Torque and Power Torque chainsets use specific removal tools.

    3. You need to bring the chain to a bike shop to be installed, they require a very expensive tool to put on.

    4. Different cassette lock ring tool, as mentioned.

I'm putting a new Campy Veloce gruppo on a1990 steel frame.
    1) thanks about the torx keys.
2)I presume, this is Campy specific.
3)I was going to use a chain connector. Will I be able to do this?
4)thanks, I have just ordered it.
I thought, this was going to be cheap and easy.
    Wrong, on both counts!

    Thanks

If you want cheap and easy get Shimano (or go to Coppers....) If you want classy and expensive get Campag.

3)I was going to use a chain connector. Will I be able to do this?

I know that chain connecting link works with Campag 10 speed chain. I use KMC quick link (different width link for Campag & Shimano)

You can use KMC chain connectors with campag 10 and 11 speed chains. I have bought them on ebay before - they can't be reused those.

Lezyne make an 11 speed chain tool for use with Campag 11 speed chains for €16 on CRC http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/lezyne-chain-drive-tool/rp-prod73420

I know that BBB had a campag specific tool kit on CRC for a while, but I don't see it anymore - not sure how good it was but seemed to have a selection of the crank tools.

Thank you all for your replies, particularly, those offering the loan of tools.
I want to be self sufficient, so I am going to buy all the necessary tools.

    I will explain fully.
In 1989, I bought a Peugeot bike, Reynolds 653 tubing, with a mixture of Mavic and Campagnolo components. I sold it in 1993, to fund the purchase of a new bike. It looked something like this.

    http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://deadrats.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/DSC00437.jpg&imgrefurl=http://deadrats.co.uk/gallery/sports-racing/dsc00437/&h=1536&w=2048&sz=489&tbnid=qiVdR7eguyT65M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=120&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpeugeot%2B653%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=peugeot+653&usg=__J5ZevIgfam3gH5_IGp7swN2HzSM=&sa=X&ei=3440UpP5A8WmhAfV9oHoDg&ved=0CCAQ9QEwAw

I regretted having to sell it. A few weeks ago, I bought a similar bike on Boards from Glennamaddy. I am going to completely refurbish it. I bought a carbon fork. The fork will be sprayed to match the frame. I am going to put this groupset on it. It is 10 speed. I thought the silver would match the bike.

I will complete the build with polished alloy bars, stem and seatpost. I have Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels, which have alloy rims and stainless steel spokes.
I am going to get a Selle Royal Regal saddle(the one with the rivets) in white and white bar tape and bottle cages.

    Now. The tools.
I am going to get this cassette tool

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/bbb-lockout-cassette-lockring-remover-btl12/rp-prod60748

I will get a 14mm Allen key locally.
I have a 10 speed chain breaker. I am going to use a chain connector.

    So. Will all that work?
And finally, I think, will I need another tool to take the cranks off, if that becomes necessary?
If I am missing something, or if anybody can further assist, please reply.

    Once again, thanks to all.

Ribble are doing good deals on campy gear at the moment, though the groupset only comes out a tenner cheaper than Bike24, though shipping might change this. I'm currently looking to pick up some Veloce or Xenon shifters, and unusually Wiggle come out on top for price.
