So it seems its now official

Abrams will not be directing the next Star Trek film

Any ideas who could or should replace him?

Bryan Singer is the first person I'd be thinking of. Hopefully this means we can get a decent writer/s.

Abrams himself has earmarked the director of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rupert Wyatt.

Now they just need to ditch Lindelo(l)f, Orci and Kurtzman and we might be on to something. The direction wasn't bad (bar the extreme lens flare) but the writing was just terrible.

Yes the extreme lens flare was annoying, how could anyone see on that ship??

As long as the following people are not involved I will be happy:

    Joel Schumacher

    Roger Christian

    Tommy Wiseau

    Uew Boll

    Jason Friedberg

    George Lucas

    Pitof

    McG

Variety reports that Michael Bay is in talks to direct at least the next two films possibly three.

Given the way Bay directs, the word 'Variety' seems somewhat ironic...

One can only hope so. Im a fan of Abrams and his first Trek film but I switched Into Darkness off after an hour. Contrived sh*te.

It'd be interesting if only to see how Bay squeezes in a helicopter flying into the sunset.

I'd be reasonably happy with Rupert Wyatt being given the reins but it doesn't matter who directs if they don't ditch the hopeless Linelol, Orci and Kurtzman and hire some people who can write.

personally i like me star trek to be smart and well evolved, into darkness was neither, maybe they can save it in the third film, i mean part 1 was superb, and showed they can do it, but as per usual Abrams follow up effort wasnt as good, he great to get things moving but he never seems to follow up,

wouldnt you love if nolan took over, no way it would happen but that would be the dream, wyatt TBF done a great job on rise of the planet of the apes, but he doesnt have a track record i would say justifies him to take over the star trek franchise and move it forward, he made POTA 2 years ago and all he done since was 2 TV shows that are currently being filmed,

personally into darkness would have been better if they just changed it up again and maybe killed chekov or uhura, give the film a proper shock, instead of killing kirk which you knew was never gonna be permanent, also just stick to the kahn storyline and forget these idiotic rouge federation elements, have kahn kick off a federation klingon war and drag it out over 2-3 films,

if you mean the actual original then fair enough but ST2009 was dumb as ****

Id really like to see a neil blomkamp version... chap is a fantastic director.

The new film will live or die by the writer as much as the director.

In so far as muck sci-fi goes a common denominator has been that Orci chap.

    Ditch him.... Optimism will rise.

    - Or the US military/flag
    - If Carol Marcus is back that covers the long leering camera shots I suppose
    - Maybe he'll give the Enterprise a saucer separation moment like the -D could.. y'know, as if it's transforming......!
    - Needs more SPLOSIONS!

    Oh well.
