    Hi HI!

So, i'm heading off to Canada tomorrow morning and i'm staying with my friend's mam when i'm over there.

I mentioned bringing over a gift for having me stay, my friend suggested whiskey, and I thought 'great!'...

Now I have a problem... I am a 21 year old female, I have never touched off Whiskey in my life and couldn't tell the difference between 2..:o

I am SERIOUSLY short on cash, so can't go off spending a lot, maybe no more than €30, I don't know how far this can get me though?

    Help meeeeeeeeeeeeeee, please! Thanks :)

You can get the obvious. A lovely 12 year old Jameson for about €40. 18 Year old is much nicer but that's way out of your budget.

Regular Jameson would be about €30

EDIT : Crested 10 is nice too @ €30. Not as nice as Jemmy, in my opinion

EDIT 2 : These will be MUCH cheaper in Duty Free going to Canada.

Greenore 8 Year-Old Single Grain Whiskey or Connemara Peated Single Malt both from the Cooley distillery & available from The Celtic Whiskey Shop for €30-€35

Both excellent suggestions. I'd favour the Greenore to be honest (I love it myself), as it has a lighter taste. The peated whiskey may be a bit to heavy if your friend's mother is not used to it.

If going to Canada buy your whiskey in the Duty Free.
    Huge savings and reasonable choice.

Assuming you're travelling from Dublin Airport, the following are all in your price range:

    Knapogue Castle 12 YO
    Bushmills 10YO Malt
    Writers tears
    Jameson 12 YO

For me, I'd take them in that order but all are good and good value whiskeys.

Writers Tears in Dublin airport. A fantastic potstill dominant Irish whiskey within your price range and one they don't get in Canada.

All good suggestions, I think. Personally, if I was getting something for myself, I'd go for the Teeling Gathering 11 yr old.

Another vote for greenore. Lovely smooth drink, great price and a nice bottle (I find it strangely appealing in shape). I would consider it a good choice if you're not used to whiskey - a single (small) ice cube makes it very refreshing. If you're having it neat, it only needs a tiny drop of water.
