Surprised more people aren't talking about it. I think it is the most interesting thing to come out of BMW in years/ever and they are to be commended for producing something that is so close to the concept. There are exquisite design details all over it, the back end is like nothing else ever, and that rarely happens in the automotive world. Really look forward to seeing one in the flesh.

Maybe maybe not, the prius is one of the most reliable cars in the world and it's pretty complex.

The I8 has a tiny battery and I doubt it will get nearly the emissions or fuel consumption figures when the plug-in power is used up.

It is a great looking car though.

I wonder why they decided to change from the trademark-BMW Angel / Halo's that were on the concept, to DRL's that would look more at home on an Audi!!

Also, that 1.5 3cyl engine pushing out 230BHP must be blown to within an inch of its life!!

Sadly no! If they put in a proper ICE in this "car of tomorrow" carbon body, it would be an absolute rocket however.

No Im just going to sit outside and rev my V12 continuously. You can work out how many Leafs will be needed to equalise the Fallout in the area! Enjoy. :cool:

The production model seems to have different proportions to the concept model. The bonnet seems out of proportion to the rest of the car. The car also doesn't look long enough.

BMW have made a mistake here tbh. They should have just made an out and out sports car. This is what Audi did with the R8 and it was hugely successful.

Im not a huge fan of the I8, but you are missing the point. This isnt a volume car, its a halo figurehead car. Comparatively the R8 is a much higher production number car. Its also a normal car, while this is designed as a technological showpiece.

The R8 didnt even have its own unique engine at launch... a far more mundane car behind the glitz! If you really want to stick to the R8 comparison, then this is like the R8 V12TDI, which Audi utterly failed to productise, making this seem like a huge PR win for BMW and a loss for Audi / R8.
