Speed camera flashed!

    Hi all,

Firstly, sorry if this has been covered already, I saw there's a mega post about speed cameras but after reading about ten pages I didn't find an answer. Do speed cameras flash if you trigger them? I got a double flash which really startled me this morning, and when I checked my speed it was fine! Which has me really paranoid that my speedometer is wrong. But aside from that it's really not as though I was even going so fast as to be overtaking other people!! But I am freaking out and feeling like I really need to be more careful, but I was also wondering, how strict are these things? I generally drive at most 4km over the limit (I wasn't even doing that at the time) but is this enough to be caught out? I'm a little annoyed anyway (maybe just being defensive I admit) the flashes were very distracting and I've found that you really need to drive right at the limit to avoid having someone behind you right on top of you! The only explaination I can think of is that the limit is actually lower there than I thought. Also, does anyone know how long it takes to receive the letter? I'd really hate to be racking up points without knowing about it!

What kind of checkpoint was it ?

I'm not sure, I've seen the van parked on the slip road to left of it often enough, but the flashes seemed to come from the right and above

    Lightening ?

    Lightening ?

Ha, it did cross my mind as I was absolutely NOT speeding, other people definitely were though. But either way I would still really like an answer about the time it takes to get the letter and how strict the limits are if anyone knows. It was shortly after another driver bombed past me so it could've been them, but either way, I'd still be very unhappy about the annoying flash.

I got a flash of a speed van once doing around 65 in 60 zone.

It was on the N4, Just before joining the M50. Early Sunday morning and there vere no other cars on the road so it was definately me who triggered the flash.

Never received anything in the post.

Was there traffic going the opposite direction ? Just because the gatso van is on your side does not mean it is trapping your side of the road.

A few more details might help.
Whereabouts was this? What speed do you think you were doing? What is the posted speed limit?
If there have been changes to the road/speed restrictions/limits, etc, someone else might know and let you know.

Well now I'm just plain worried. It was along the n11 in Wicklow, just where it turns into the m11. I thought the speed limit along that entire stretch was 100km but I've just noticed on that speed traps website that parts of the n11 along there are apparently 60km? But surely there should be a clear sign! Ha, unless I missed it coz I was speeding past it. Either way in terms of my original question, I guess this means the camera does flash if you're speeding. Harsh lesson learned :(

Eek, didn't realise it took a few months to get the letter. I wish there was some way of finding out about sooner.

letter can come with in 14 days,
At the end of the day were talking about 2 points and a fine, nobody's died,
    don't worried so much.

That road is on my commute.
Since this monday (9th) from junction 17 (Wicklow/Rathnew) to just north of Arklow, the speed limit there is now 80kph.
This new limit covers the whole 16.5km of N/M11 road works.
All the speed limit signs have been changed from 100 to 80, and there was (and still is) illumated warning signs on the road from last week informing drivers of the revised limit.

I know the area you mean, I did actually notice that, the place I'm talking about is actually just at junction 14. But thanks, I really could've made it clearer there.

You are photographed and recorded by those vans once you are ANYTHING above the speed limit.

The decision on what speed to book you at, is made later.

So in a 60 zone you are driving 63 you will be photographed but you may not be booked, nice lads as they are:)

Just wondering how the photo is taken at night, is there a flash as you past or do they use some other lighting method or infrared..... Past one of the vans last night in a 100, I looked down immediatly and I was doing 105, didn't see any flash but as I went away I taught I noticed a night coming from the top of the van shining down my direction of travel....
