Hi

Previous car has been declared a write off (Yaris D4D) due to an accident so I am looking for another small car to replace it. I have limited space to park so I am looking for a newish 5 door which is shorter or at least the same length as the yaris. Budget is based upon the insurance return which is a maximum of 4,000.

The aygo/c1/107 range seems to tick all the boxes in this regard. I understand they are all rebadged shells of the same car, with the same Yaris engine and Gearbox.

This C1 here seems good value at 3,000, with equivilent aygo's in and around the 5,500 mark: http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/citroen-c1-1-0-sx-5dr/5625745

Any opinions or suggestions for an alternative? This need to replace the car was quit unexpected so 4,000 is the max I can pay.

One thing to bear in mind is that its the 3 cylinder 1.0 engine, which while its great fun to thrash around and loves revs, is a bit unrefined.
The aygo/c1 also is quite basic, again part of its charm, but things like the passenger window only being able to be opened from the switch on the door are annoying, the boot is also tiny, and the standard speakers are rubbish (some have rear speakers though)

There's a bang of ex rental car about that one.

The three doors are a bit cheaper than the five doors. There is only one 2006 Aygo on carzone below 5,000.

Yes I phoned that one up. It wont be for sale for two weeks though. I need to get something this weekend . Otherwise yeah, that one seems mint.

Yeah I considered the Fiat panda. Its a bit shorter than the yaris even though it dosnt look like it too. But I thought there might be some reliability issues with them being a Fiat. And even though the aygo/c1/107 are quit plastic/cheap on the inside, from photo's, the fiat is as bad.

But maybe im wrong on the reliability of the panda? I know there are tonnes of the old ones still driving in France and Italy, so maybe the reputation is undeserved...

Was wondering it myself recently and then saw it on another thread the other day. For FIATs I dunno where the Fix It Again Tomorrow idea really came from (except maybe the Brava/Bravo). Alfa and Lancia maybe, but FIAT?

I have read that the Panda is a solid little motor.

It gets just as hot and stuffy a small car. The sirions have aircon so its not unreasonable to want it,

It's not at all unreasonable, and I like aircon in any car, but a small 8 year old city car I'd happily have in base trim as there is nowt to go wrong and it would be cheap to run.

But if I was buying new it would be a different story......
