I've been hearing a knocking sound while driving the past week, brought it to my local mechanic today and he said the timing chain is worn. Does this model have both a belt and chain? If the chain needs replacing, would the cost be the same as doing the belt?

It has both a chain and a belt. The belt drives the fuel pump and one of the cam shafts, then the other camshaft is driven via the chain.

To change the chain costs extra compared to the belt as it is not usually changed until it causes problems.

Are we talking much extra? Was quoted 350 for belt

It will cost a good bit extra yes. There is a lot of extra work in it as the chain is inside the engine under the cam cover.
