One for all the music photographers out there!
According to the NME page, it's been extended to this Sunday (as opposed to last Sunday), so time to get your entries in!

    Details here.
    My shot here.

It's not entirely vote based, so I'm not really after votes. Votes are for the 'People's Choice' aware (which seems to be sewn up already), and the top voted image gets €250 worth of Nikon equipment. It seems to be well judged, going by the previous years' winners (Pennie Smith was a judge one year), so it's well worth a go!

    Good luck!

I got no confirmation , just saw my image there today on nme - not a massive fan of that online voting thing , first one I've ever done

I entered last Saturday, they all went up Monday morning. I'd imagine they don't get looked at over the weekend and once they're cleared on Monday morning they pop up!

I posted mine a few weeks ago and forgot to go back and check. I've no chance in hell of finding them now the way the voting system works. There's so much to filter through (a lot of rubbish too) and it keeps logging me out and delaying logging in after a few votes so I've given up on trying to find mine.

Given all the categories they had for submissions, they should have split them up for voting also.

i'm gonna assume mine are in there somewhere. sure it's the taking part that counts! :-)

I got an e-mail to say I'd been shortlisted!
I'm not holding out much hope with the picture I'd submitted, but it's great to make it to the final stage.

Anyway, just a heads up to you all, as the e-mail was in my spam folder, so it might be worth your while checking there if you entered!

Thanks. It turns out they didn't pick that one - they picked THIS one instead. I don't rate that one as highly! I only added it, because I thought, 'Sure I can add 5, so why not!'

    :pac:

What shot of yours did they pick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 749 ✭✭✭BlastedGlute

That's a bit odd, although i have to admit i kinda like the expressions and composition here. Great stuff dude!

Had a total brain fart when I asked this one. NME are probably focusing on their buzz bands and favourites.

    Odd choices all 'round, really.
Can't see me beating that Arctic Monkeys shot. They've been using it as their ad for the thing and all! This would be my choice for live, too!

Was I right in noticing it was a different shot of Health that won the competition? Lovely shot by another Irish photographer, David Sexton.

Yup. Sounds lad and a belter of a photographer!

It was a great night, lots of schmoozing even more beer.
Great to meet the NME staff photographers too. Really inspirations people!

"All The Winners From The NME Photography Awards With Nikon"
    Sums it all up really.

and referring to someone liking the Dave Sexton shot I assume you meant the bearded vocalist?
If so I think way to much clarity/sharpness and the shadow covering almost half his face doesn't help and it just look's to unnatural.

The festival pic by Josh Groom I found the best and most natural. (very little PP)
Most of the other pics I found poor.

I couldn't agree more, all I see is indie type bands AND mirror image photographers.

#16 winner of portraits by Jamie Brown well a nice pic appears to be overblown but it's also hard to be sure because of the quality of the
    pic on that site.

The other Dave Sexton pic #18 called Live is decent but again hard to judge on such a small file.

Why I could never ever take modern NME seriously
"The 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time: 500-401
#483. Elvis Costello And The Attractions, 'Blood And Chocolate' (1986) Demon Records. The King of America returns to his snarling punk records, to deliver his most stark and menacing releases of yet."

Back in 77-81ish they knew their stuff now I might as well be reading the Evening Herald's music column.

    back then in school , thats what I wanted to be, a journo for the nme (many years later, i wish I at least applied , and kickstarted some kind of career) - it was an amazing mag back then , with some brilliant journos & snappers;
