You should contact the student desk in Tierney or check their website for the policy.

I could be wrong but I think as you have not started the course then you must defer rather than get a leave of absence

I haven't contacted anyone yet,I have one more year left of my course but I haven't registered, I won't be charged fees for this semester if I haven't registered? Anyone know the deadline o apply?

This prob sounds a stupid question, but I failed the last semester and have one more year left to complete my course (arts) how due to personal circumstances I'm not returning this semester, I haven't yet applied for a leave of absence and I have not registered for this semester, is there a deadline to apply? Or is not registering for this semester enough?

Defer or leave of absence same thing..

OP im not sure what ways arts do it, but for ag-science we fill out an online extenuating circumstances form and if you've supporting evidence of your personal circumstances they need to be dropped in after this is completed. Your not too late now anyway but get urself into your programme office sooner rather than later.

It is not the same as not registering, or not turning up.

If you are a free fees student, you must let your programme office and/ or the student desk know what your plans are in advance of the 30th of September. After the 30th of September, the HEA fees are drawn down.

As you may not be a HEA/ free fees student, this has less relevance to you, but you should still contact your programme office or the student desk as soon as possible so as not to risk any problems with your academic status (isn't there still a link on how many times you can repeat), on your fee status, or any future issues with a grant, because in the eyes of the University you will still be in attendance for this academic year, and still sitting exams this year.

I thought you could apply for a leave of absense up to 6 weeks into a semester? That's what it says on the guide, I am a free fee student, also, I'm no longer living in dublin ATM, would the program office accept the application through the post?

I really think you should contact UCD directly about this rather than constantly posting here about this as ultimately no-one here can really do anything for you - I'm not having a go at you but I think for your own sake this is the better course of action.

Take a look here - http://www.ucd.ie/students/leaveofabsence/index.html it's basically saying contact the programme office asap once you decide that you need to take a leave of absence.
