Interviewing but never clinching the deal

    HI,

I've been for several interviews over the last whole for jobs I both want and ones I go just for the interview experience.

I am looking to move in to a similar but different scope and the experience I have is excellent however not directly related to the sector I wish to get in it.

I interview very well - I always get called for a second interview, I get down to the last 2/3 people which in itself is a confidence boost however I never seem to land the job. I always get on well with interviewers and I am always liked as a person.

How can I convince the employees to give me the opportunity to work for them. I do have excellent experience in similar roles and have skills that are interchangeable but no direct experience for the roles I am going for which seems to always be the clincher.

    Any advise greatly appreciated.

Have you gotten any feedback from the prospective employers as to why you didn't seal the deal?
Is it just lack of experience within the particular sector?
Is there anything you could do to prove that you a familiar with the sector even if you've not worked specifically in it?

Any professional body you could look to join or certification you could acquire?

I presume its not something you could gain experience in by volunteering your services somewhere?

If you are getting into the last two or three people for a position, then it is no longer about skills or experience, it is all about being a good fit, you can't make people like you, it is a question of keeping at it until you find a match.

My tactics at this point is to find out who you will be meeting and then use linkedin, xing or whatever to learn as much as you can about the people you are meeting...

    Been there.

Got job at 14th time of asking. Long road. Stick with it.

You can only affect your own performance - if you are performing well there is not much else you can do other than to stick with it.

I know what you mean, OP. The same thing happens to me. Like Irishguy says - I guess you've gotta stick at it. Someone, somewhere will give you a shot.
