    Hi, if somebody is receiving a SUSI grant for a two year course can they apply for JSA during the summer months? Thank you!

    In order to claim jsa during summer months you have to be 23 years of age on the 1st January prior to commencing the course.

    Thanks for that, definitely meet the age requirement! I was not sure if you could apply for jsa when not actually finished at college, as in during the summer. Will be in receipt of Susi grant and not the BTEA.

    Once you were 23 on the 1st of January prior to starting the course you can receive jsa during the summer. Obviously you need to apply for it and do the means test. It doesnt matter if you are in receipt of the SUSI grant.

    Is the means test for the jsa in summer months the whole household income? If your over 30, a mature student? I am starting college this September, was wondering if I can get JSA in the summer. I am not getting any BTEA

    If you are married or co-hab then partners earnings will be assesed. If living at home with parents the answer is no.

    Thanks for the reply, I live at home with my parents. Just wanted to make sure I could claim something in case I cant find a part time job
