Optical Splitter

    Hi Folks,

I have a HTPC and Sky Box and I want to connect them via the Optical input on my 5.1 but it only has one input. What will happen if I use a splitter rather than a switch? The HTPC is always on, but not always sending a signal, where as I can turn off the sky box. Will it not work, or will it mix the signals if I had both sources outputting.

    Thanks.

Bit more digging, seems I do need a switch. Any recommendations with a remote. 2 or 4 port.

Is optical the only option - for example is there a co-ax (SPDIF) port on any of the boxes?

    Thanks for the reply!

It's only a cheap and cheerful Pannasonic BTT-400, so it does have phono on the back but I'm not sure about Co-Ax. The other issue is the Sky Box (So I'm told) only outputs 5.1 by optical, so I converter seems as expensive as a switch.

www.lindy.ie - 4 port switch with a wee remote. Not the best quality stuff I've bought but does the job.

Do check your other connection such as coaxial, as there is an output on the Sky Box.
