UK: "Dangerous dogs plan will mean no 'innocent' trespassers"

Interesting developments in the UK. With our recent new law on defending our homes I wonder if the government here will adopt a similar plan.
Dog owners will be safe from prosecution under revised dangerous dogs laws if their pet attacks someone trespassing in their home - even if the "intruder" is doing a good turn.

Intresting as in more people will buy a dog with out proper knowledge and leave it outside all day and night as a guard dog? Because that's the most likely reality of what will happen sadly (and of course said dogs will escape on a regular basis and being poorly socialised and trained will cause even more havoc and calls for "killer dogs" to be restricted).

This was actually fought for by a lot of people, as the fear was that if a dog bit a burglar, then the dog would automatically be deemed dangerous under the new legislation, so it is a welcome change to the proposed law.

While I think that my own fella would be more likely to lick the burglar to death you can never be sure, it seems ridiculous to me that any dog would be put to sleep because they bit an intruder. It's something I do worry about, I live alone, so in the event of an intrusion first and foremost I should be ringing the gardai but with the way that the laws currently are the first thing I would do is ensure that my dog s safely locked away in the bathroom or somewhere where he can't be accused of anything. My dog won't be PTS over biting some scummer. I definitely think the laws should be changed. That's not to saw that if they were I would leave my dog off but if it did happen and someone did get bitten at least it wouldn't be something I would have to worry about.
