The account needs to be in the claimants name.

The account needs to be in the name of the Claimant.

    Other qualifying conditions
You must be permanently living (that is on an all-year-round basis) at the address at which you wish the allowances to be applied. The allowances do not apply if you live in a nursing/retirement home where the accommodation is not fully self-contained. However, if you are aged 70 or over and live in such a nursing/retirement home and you have your own telephone account, you may be eligible for the Telephone Allowance
No other person in your household can be receiving the allowances.
You must be the registered consumer of electricity/gas if you are applying for an Electricity/Natural Gas Allowance and the registered telephone account holder if you are applying for the Telephone Allowance.

    1. Electricity Allowance:
You must be registered, or joint registered consumer, before the allowance can be credited to your
bill. Please contact your supplier if this is not the case.

If the wait for a bill amended to also include the applicant's name would be too long the Dept may accept written confirmation from electricity provider that name has been added.

This must be a new requirement because in the past it was enough to just have the name added to the account.

Hi - If the registered account holder sends an email to electric Ireland requesting the name to be added it will be done straight away. We had to do this recently and are now approved for the household benefits package.
