Which Australian Newspaper?

I want to buy my new niece a gift of a framed newspaper front page (of her birth date). She was born in Sydney on May 2nd, 2013 and has just returned back to Ireland with her Irish parents.

Thing is, I haven't a clue what the popular newspapers are in Sydney/Australia. I'd like to target a type of paper akin to say the Irish Independent?

Any advice or even urls on where to order would be very appreciated?
(I would just need the print, since framing here in Ireland would be more economical than shipping a frame.)

    Thanks!

That's a really nice idea, I may steal it in the future :-) The Sydney Morning Herald or The Australian are probably the most popular, both have websites.

The Daily Telegraph is the biggest-selling daily newspaper in Sydney. Not everybody likes it, and its editorial character has been described as a light-hearted mixture of racism, pornography and fiction. Think Daily Mail in the UK for a comparison.

The Sydney Morning Herald only sells about half as much, but it would see itself as the more serious and respected newspaper. It's the oldest continuously-published newspaper in Australia.

The Australian is a national newspaper (as the name suggests) and its coverage reflects that. But its main editorial offices are in Sydney. It, too, aims for the "respected" rather than "popular" end of the market. In Sydney, the SMH would substantially outsells it.

I'd go with The SMH or The Australian simply because they name Sydney/Australia in the title. I don't think policys, coverage, and are as important as the symbolism.
But before you fully decide on which one have a look at the front pages in question. One might be more or less appropriate that others.
