Mature Students fees

    Hi everyone.

Just need a little information on mature student fees. I turned 23 in the summer and I am currently doing a fetac course in Vet assistance. I would like to go on to get a degree in vet nursing next year but I am a little confused about the way fees work for mature students.

I have already been to college after my leaving cert doing a level 8 course. After Christmas of my second year I dropped out due to not having enough interest in the course.

Will previously completing a year and a half in college stop me from getting my fees payed for me as a mature student or is the slate clean once you turn 23?

Yes your previous course may mean you might not get free fees.

If it is more than 5 years since you were in college you may be eligible as a second chance student

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    I'm in the same boat.

Went to collage in 2005 after my leaving certificate.
Left before in first year before i sat my summer exams.
Started college last week, i was unemployed for 10 months so i am getting BTEA and have applied for the SUSI grant for my fees and have been told i was provisionally approved.

Got a letter today from my college saying i had previously attended a third level institution and this may effect my eligibility for the Free Fees Initiative.
Have to fill out a form and get it stamped by my previous college.

Is there a chance i will have to pay these fees? I haven't been to college in 7 years and i was unemployed this time before entering college?

    Just read this thread.
Look at the third post, its from SUSI but id imagine the same rules apply to the Free Fees Initiative.

You can ask to be considered as a second chance student

Went to college again myself and got free fees this time round.

Five years and your fine i think. It was that case 2 years ago anyway.
