Here's the original and full version of the article in German for anyone who speaks the language: http://www.aerotelegraph.com/aer-lingus-irland-chef-christoph-mueller-interview-ryanair-strategie-langstrecke-fusion

There is talk of flat beds on the SFO rotations a lot sooner.

I would like to formally welcome Aer Lingus to the 21st century.

Also, in a weird, lonely hearts kind of manner, he mentions maintenance and slots as two important things to look for in merging with another carrier.

There is talk of flat beds on the SFO rotations a lot sooner.

This could end up costing me a pile of money.

I have to say though, I got a solid night's sleep on the slanty bed on my one and only flight up the front with the current version of the seat.

I find the current seat a bit lumpy and can never seem to get the perfect alignment despite the vast array of buttons available.

That said the transatlantic load factors are 90%+ and bar the lack of a lie flat seat the product up front is very good. The product down the back is good and would much rather be back there than on a BA777

With the return to SFO the lie flat becomes a serious issue

I presume their going to tie this in with the arrival of the A350 if thats going ahead. kind of a start fresh approach? bit like what BA is undergoing with there new adverts for their A/C. Would be nice. EI have a nice interior. imo could be updated a little more but im sure with the new a/c twill be very nice

I should think so, it mirrors the arrival of the 350. But that was always a given, new a/c would definitely have meant new interior and thus lie flats.

Its the rumour that we might see them earlier for SFO that is really interesting.

It would most likely lead to the loss of the 3 row's of Y between business and the position 2 door. Its being looked at as part of the offering for SFO to keep the multinationals happy after all they have bank rolled it in part.

More than likely the seats will be the same as the Etihad business class product:

Lets hope they have a little more storage space than the current Etihad type, always found it difficult to find places to store my bits and pieces

I keep thinking when I read of companies helping airlines with routes etc, that Ireland is more like an African country rather than a European one.

This logic makes the most sense.....upgrade when it fits into the operation. As I posted in another thread, if EI take delivery of 2 A350 they can ensure that 1 is always on the DUB-SFO rotation from mid-2015. Current plan is 4 deliveries in 2015 and 2 in 2016.

It would be a terrible shame to lose those three rows. The best economy seats on the plane!
