Fetac Level 5, 3 month or 9 month period for BTEA

I'm supposed to start a Fetac level 5 this Monday. In applying for BTEA it now seems as if I won't qualify because I have not been getting JSA for 9 months.

Can anyone clarify if doing a FETAC level 5 course is considered 3rd level and therefore needs to be in the 9 months on qualifying social welfare to receive BTEA. Or is it only second level adn therefore subject to the 3 months qualifying payment for BTEA.

Fetac courses are run in plc colleges. They're classified as second level and therefore only 3 months on social welfare needed to get the BTEA.

3 months for level 5. Good luck with your course.

Level 6 is still 9 months

Level 6 is still 9 months

Depends where the level 6 is done.

There's two types of level 6

There is the FETAC Advanced Certificate, in PLC colleges or fas.
And then there is the HETAC level 6 certificate, which you get after a two year course in a third level college like an IT.

That HETAC level 6 is third level so with the BTEA you have to wait 9 months.

But with the FETAC level 6 advanced certificate there's only a 3 month wait.

I wasnt entitled to BTEA allowance for my first year doing a level 5. I wasnt unemployed. I wanted to continue and do a FETAC level 6. I spent the summer (3 months) on the dole and received the BTEA doing level 6 as my course was in a PLC.
