VAGCOM unit for a Seat

    Hi folks,

Does anyone on here have a VagCom unit for Seat?

My friend has a 05 1.4 Seat Ibiza that has a bit of a rough idle when at temp. It's idling at 690 rpm and according to the Seat forums some people have had this issue resolved by raising the idle rpm.
Has anyone here got any similar experience?

I know its not the engine as that was changed, as were all the hoses, and the ECU was reset. The guy who did that work doesn't have a VagCom unit so he can't try raising thew revs to see if that helps.

Was the throttle body cleaned? Raising the RPM sounds maybe like a bit of a cop out on finding the real problem. Where are you based too?

Yup the throttle body has been cleaned.

It's just the most common thing mentioned on the Seat Forums. I have no idea though.

Sorry, I forgot it doesn't say in my location. Donegal, Letterkenny area.

Throttle bodies need alignment after cleaning ,this is done via VCDS (vag com) what part of the country are you in ?

It does? Might be worth trying.

Donegal. But he's probably cool with traveling if need be.

    Do you have a VagCom?
If no one closer replies I'll see if Kildare is too far for him. Dealers are looking for a fortune, and the indy's I've spoke to here don't have vagcom, they have something else that covers more makes & models.

I have VCDS yes that's what VAG com is called these days .I've only ever done one throttle body allignment before but would be willing to do it no problem. It's just a matter of finding out which one is in his car - as you can see from the link there are a few different types/methods.

Personally i think he would be mad to travel from Donegal to Kildare just for this.He could try signing up at autostadt.ie (VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda etc owners forum) and see if there is anyone closer to him with VCDS.

I'd do it here in galway if your stuck, but it seems an awful long way for a 30 second job. There is surely an indi somewhere in donegal or derry even with vagcom. Try the motors forum too.

Thanks for the offers and help guys. I've spoken to him and hes going to see if cleaning the throttle body again will help.

Does anyone know if VCDS is needed to do this? Or is it safe enough for him to go ahead and do it?

If you clean the throttle body you need to reallign it,you need VCDS for this.

Just updating this in case anybody needs it in the future.

We cleaned the throttle body and thanks to Luke from Northwest Auto Diagnostics we got it realigned. He also set the EGR alignment. I'm not sure what else, but he was a great help.
All seems to be sorted now.
