i picked up a wilkinson/vintage tc200 tele style a few weeks ago for cheap, guitar plays fine and everything, but ive noticed that if i shake the neck that a faint rattle sounds close to the headstock.

I believe that the truss rod nut is the source of the rattle and have tried tightening the rod but the rattle is still there, it dosent seem to affect playability , its just in case it could case a problem in the long run, anyone else had a similar problem before

if the truss rod is loose in the neck it will do no harm.

if you tighten it until the rattle stops, it won't be pulling anything out of shape, and the rattle will stop.
