We have a well which was installed about 6 years ago when the house was built. The pressure in the taps wasn't the best so the builder installed a pump in the hotpress. The turns on whenever a toilet is flushed or if we use the bathroom taps and kitchen hot tap. Over the years every now and then the pump wouldn't stop after flushing the toilet. The only way it would stop is if we keep turning on and off taps. Recently though this has become more persistent and its taking longer to stop. Anyone know why this is happening or how to stop it? It's an expensive piece of kit and I'm sure this cant be good for it.

The pump probably has an expansion vessel on it that has lost pressure.

Look for a steel can or football on or near the pump. The correct pressure will deoend to an extent on the vesse. Post a picture here when you find it.

What is the make and model of the pump?

Very inaccessible at the moment, not sure if you can make it out.

On each end you have a read switch/flow sensor switch. (As you look at the pic: the connections opposite each other on the lower side of the pump.) There is a wire connected to each.

Check to see if the reed switch on either end have become dislodged. Alternatively unclip each reed switch, one at a time from the brass outlet and see if this stops the pump, indicating the float is stuck up inside and needs removal and cleaning. Water may need to be turned off when cleaning.

Unclip one at a time, e.g run hot tap & unclip hot reed switch. Repeat for cold.
If you are not confident, get a plumber or service man to sort for you.
