If you can get at it , don't even know where mine is !! I 've asked 3 different mechanics to do it when it's being serviced... Still needs to be done ....

It's not an easy job. What makes you think it needs cleaning?

There you go, this is cleaning with it in place. It's "better" to clean it removed but this way you can see how bad it is before removing.

Best I do mine, got the car with 130k km on it and now has 260k km on it and never done. Anyother pipes ans bits to be cleaned while at it? And is it very different on an 06 1.8 TDCI?

    Back into the inlet manifold.

That's what I would be afraid of.

If i was going to the extent of taking off the egr to clean, i would probably go down the route of blanking it off. Silly thing anyway clogging the engine with uneccessary soot and oil.

The soot and oil is result of other issues.

If the turbo oil seals are leaking oil will be drawn into the inlet manifold and coat the erg allowing carbon build up.

A lot of erg valves once removed can be cleaned with carb cleaner.

If you where blanking erg off, you would need to fool car computer to avoid fault codes and or waring lights on dash.
