Question regarding Illness Benefit

Just a Quick question, My company were claiming for me Illness Benefit. I was sending them in Certs every week, and they were claiming for me.

Now they say they will no longer be paying me and i will need to send the social welfare certs into the social welfare myself. My only problem is i sent them in a cert already last Monday, and i have been in contact with them to send the cert back to me. They seem to be saving they don't have it, or haven't go it and are dragging their heels.

I Have since received another cert from my Doctor, which needs to be sent into the social welfare, but i am waiting for the one i sent into my work, so i can send in both together.

My question is will the social welfare pay me for these two weeks, even though the certs could be late been sent in ?

Correct me if I am wrong but the procedure is you get the doctor to fill out a Social Welfare cert for you.

You send this cert to Social Welfare and they send you your payment.

in other words you must claim not your employer.

If your employer is nice enough to pay you four full salary while you are in receipt of the Social Welfare payment usually the deal is that you sign your social welfare cheque and give it to your HR person.

Perhaps you incorrectly sent your employer a doctors cert each time and not a Social Welfare Cert/Claim form?

You must submit a claim to Social Welfare for the relevant periods.

There is usually an initial claim when claiming benefit for the first time.

An intermediate cert for each subsequent week.

A final cert is submitted when you are resuming employment.

Once Social Welfare receive a correct claim form they will honour it.

Indeed the procedure does not work like you describe it.
To get Illness Benefit your doctor has to fill out the first application form and send it into the DoSP. He also gives you the first cert to certify your medical condition. YOU have to send it into the DoSP yourself- and not into your employers office.
The employer has NOTHING to do with the process. It looks to me that you was paid four weeks salary by your employer on a voluntary basis.Your employer CANNOT claim for you- he would not get a penny.
Usually it takes about 6 weeks to get your first money from the DoSP.
You better get in touch with the DoSP to clean this mess up.
    Good luck anyhow.
