    Hi Guys,

I hope someone can advise me - my hot water cylinder is leaking.....

It states on the label the following:

    Grade 3
    36*18 twin coil lagged

Can anyone recommend the best place to purchase a new one & what to specify?

From reading online people seem to be recommending stainless steel over copper....?

This one has only been in for 5 years & is leaking already?

Any advice will be much appreciated

I am based in Donegal by the way.

    Many Thanks

    Tanka

Are you fed from a private well or mains?
If well I would have the water tested.

    Hi Shane,

I am fed from the mains water supply - not a well.

    Thank You

    Hi Guys,

Remember I am not in anyway a plumber.......

It seems to be leaking from the bottom joint on the circumference - the connections are all dry.

I've been quoted from a bricks & mortar plumbers suppliers here locally:

    Grade 3 Copper 227
    Grade 2 Copper 308
Stainless Steel 485 (with 25 year Guarantee)

    Prices include VAT & Delivery

I have my regular plumber coming tonight to look at it

    Any Comments?

    Many thanks again

    Tanka

    +1

I got 14 years out of my cylinder (hard water area, although a water softener was fitted about 5/ 6 years in) so I too would be interested in finding out why it failed so soon before going any further. As it happens I went for a Grade 2 cylinder this time around, it's a small enough price differential for the potential of a longer life. I think I paid about €300 (incl. VAT) this year for a 42 x 18", single coil, rapid recovery cylinder, factory insulated.

Probably a bad weld or sh1t copper. I've seen cylinders leak from day one in some cases
