How will the lack of a European competition affect rugby in the Celtic nations?

The news that the French and English are leaving the HC in 2014, personally has me very worried. If we do not or cannot join the new European Competition that we could see both a serious drop in finances for Celtic clubs plus lack of top end competitive games for our players. This in turn could lead to a drop of form at international level for the Celtic Nations as well as curbing our ability to develop top quality young players.

The ultimate question from an Irish perspective is could the death of the Heineken Cup destroy our ability to compete and win championships at international level?

Or is this whole premise ridiculous? XD
