devastated. I had everything on there.

what I want to know is, even if the thief has reset the hpone, wiped everything and installed a new sim card can they still trace it?

    thanks in advance.

Not sure quite how advanced the gards are here, but from what I know phone can be traced by their IMEI number.
In Holland they had a campaign for a while (maybe still do) where if you had a stolen phone you'd regularly receive texts saying : this is a stolen phone etc. etc.

So technically yes it's possible, can it be done here? Who knows, I wouldn't want to have to rely on the gards being able to do it.
Also you'd have to know (or be able to find out) the IMEI number.

just on this. I think the Gardai get a bit of bad press when it comes to their technical abilities. From my experience, the gardai have quite a high standard of forensic expertise, including mobile phone forensics. Dont let the stereotypical image of the clueless "is this your veh-icle" garda fool you :)

red tape and legal requirements may cause problems though. Best bet is to talk to the gardai and see what they suggest.

Agreed - the main issue is not capability - it is capacity.

Resources in the CCIU are quite restricted and naturally certain types of crime get priority.
